The Chicago Blackhawks, now healthy on defense, have been getting calls on Trevor Daley since it’s obvious the reigning Cup champs have a bit of a surplus with 10 NHL capable blueliners.

Not that Daley has complained, but my sense is he’s probably a bit frustrated with his role these days, as he’s used to playing more minutes. It just hasn’t been a good fit so far with the Hawks.

Given the abundance of teams around the league looking for a defenseman, there should be a market for Daley, although I don’t get the sense the Blackhawks are in any hurry. If they move him, it’s because it’s the right fit and the right deal.

Daley, 32, has another year left on his deal after this season at a $3.3 million salary cap hit, though his actually salary this season is $3.1 million and next season it’s $2.7 million.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are among the teams who would like to add a defenseman at some point. Would Daley be a fit? The cap hit might be an issue.
