I just don't see any single possible way the Flames would even approach Gio about waiving his NMC after he signed to stay here and the organization gushed about him being the pulse of the team.
While Gio could make sense for both teams I don't see the Flames doing it due to optics. You don't trade your captain less than 2 months into the season because he is one of several players struggling on the team right now. Especially considering he just signed a huge extension to finish his career here

Funny - last year I asked if posters thought they'd trade Gio for the number one (McDavid) pick. Quite a few said no.
