1. Every freaking one of us is the beneficiary of someone fleeing a country to seek a better life. A giant chunk of those people "didn't stick around to fight" or fled famine, persecution, etc. Now we want to deny anyone else the same opportunity now that we are warm, safe, comfortable and fed?
2. Why do so many only value a human life if it is the same colour, religion and within the same imaginary lines that define their country? If we take in 25,000 people and save thousands of lives, it's not worth the risk that a smaller amount of people will die here instead of a larger amount dying and suffering there? They are still people. If Canada ever goes to hell I hope things have changed and we all have an easier time finding somewhere safe.
