You need to give some credit to the Avs for picking up a goalie for a 2nd who at this point, looks to be growing into a NHLer. I still think the Flames logic in trading him was sound.

He would have been a UFA had we not traded him, and I think it's unlikely we would have tried to re-sign him based on potential only (we ended up getting Hiller instead). No doubt Colorado would have pushed hard to get him as a UFA so there was a real possibility of losing him for nothing. A draft pick (and specifically a second rounder) was and is a great return.
I agree that the credit here goes to Colorado's management/coaching (i.e. Roy/Allaire) and Reto for the patience and work in developing his game -- something that likely would not have happened here. It was a gamble considering the price tag but it is starting to pay off for them.
