Flames goaltending prospect Jon Gillies is dealing with a lingering hip issue that may require surgery. Canucks prospect Thatcher Demko underwent surgery for a similar hip ailment last season and he’s rebounded at Boston College for seven shutouts in 10 games this year.

Demko underwent a double hip surgery to repair his labrums. Before the surgery, he was in pain every time he stretched his leg. Demko actually played through the pain in 2014, deciding he would rather not miss any hockey.
Demko had the surgery in early May 2015 and there were some questions if he would be ready for the start of the season in October. He managed not to miss any games and has been lights out ever since.
The surgery is pretty common for goalies. Rinne also has had this surgery and it kept him out 4 months (well 5 if you include the infection he developed)
It looks like Hiller also once had this type of surgery too.
