I was kind of kidding, but 4k LED TV's have no particular benefit over 1080p in formats we're talking about here, like 60" sizes, unless you're sitting five feet from the screen. The TV's themselves produce lower quality images than what was being sold 2-3 years ago. It's largely a marketing ploy to be able to sell panels that are cheap to produce (relatively) for higher prices and convince people they need the next generation technology.
OldDutch is right, OLED is really what you'd want if you want actual next-generation technology, but they're extremely expensive because it costs a lot to actually produce the panels as no one has figured out a way to do it efficiently.
