For obvious reasons. Dougie was coming off a very impressive ELC which included a 42pt in 72 game season where he played tough minutes. The perceived value of the trade was he likely would be worth a top 5 pick. He signed a contract that many thought was fair to a down right steal.
When the Bruins went off the board with their pick it stung even more. Hamilton had a similar value last year as many would perforce Monahan to have now. If the Flames traded him for the same package this forum would melt down. If he struggled for 20 games I don't think that would soften the blow. If he struggled for 2 years then yes it would feel better.
If Dougie is #5 on the Flames all year and into next year then Bruins fans likely feel better but a 17 game sample size doesn't tilt the scales in their favor.
