The fact that teams apparently have interest in Russell is telling that teams are pretty desperate for defenseman that can play. What's funny is that prior to Gio signing that deal everyone was saying he would get $8 million/season if he went UFA. Now less than two months into the season he's worth nothing signed to $6 million? I simply don't buy it as a team in win now mode will be willing to accept the risk of the back end of the deal if it results in a Stanley Cup much like the Kinds with the Richards deal.
