i think the team overachieved by a great deal last year, and it was unfair to assume that the results this year would be greater than or equal to that.

In the great balancing acts of the universe, the team is underacheiving by a great deal this year around.

I think it's safe to say this is year 3 of the rebuild. Winning NOW shouldn't be of greatest priority, but that this team is expected to be at the very least competing for the playoffs regularly starting in the next season or so.

I'd like to see the management looking at the trade deadline in this fashion. I'm assuming the team has dug a deep enough hole that they aren't really going to be making a push for the playoffs this year, we need to explore the assets that can be attained by moving guys like Hudler, Russel, Jones, Stajan. It would be nice to be able to move out guys like wideman, ramo, hiller, engelland, smid, but i just don't see them easy to move out. Also need to look at guys like backlund, colborne and determine if they make sense for the club's direction or if they bring more value to the make of up the team thru their trade value.

giordano looks like a shadow of the player we have watched for the last 2 seasons. the duration of the contract was alarming, but it is imperative that he be an elite player for at least the first years of the contract. If this is injury related and he isn't able to get back into form, flames could have a problem from a cap structure perspective.
