Always liked Berra, and he still has loads of potential. Wasn't it Cloutier (or was it Malarchuck?) that stated Berra has the fastest legs they have seen on a big goalie? He was (and still is) loaded with potential, but was always a work in progress. I always thought he would make it given enough time and coaching to develop.
With that being said, Flames make that trade 10 out of 10. Entering a rebuild. Berra would have taken more time to develop than the time it would take to become waiver eligible. There is no guarantees to any prospect's development. Avs offered what was perceived as an over-payment on a very stingy deadline.
Yep, 10 out of 10 times you would hope the Flames make a deal given Berra's age. If he pans out into something (which I think he will), then it just might be a case of both teams 'win'.
