I had a conversation with my sister in law about the pace of TWD last night. She thought there were too many characters to keep track of and she didn't seem to really care about most of them. It occurred to me that Game of Thrones has at least as many characters and maybe even more "main" characters. I don't really have difficulty keeping track of them and the show does a decent job of developing the different characters and plots week to week.

Both GoT and TWD have a ton of source material to draw from, but GoT only gets 10 episodes a season and has been sprinting through the plot points. TWD gets 16 episodes a season and has been taking its time and indulging on many more "show only" tangents. Maybe there's a happy medium between the densely packed episodes on GoT and the uneven sometimes weak episodes of TWD, but I think showrunners should probably err on the side of giving viewers too much to work with each week rather than relying on characters like Deanna or Ron or Denise or a goat to carry the show.
