I hope Ovechkin somehow gets to 894. I don't see it happening, there's probably a 5% chance of it happening. But he's at 483 now, so if plays another 10 seasons (including this one) until he hits 40 it could happen.

Let's say he puts up another 47 this year to make it to 530, that means he needs 364 goals at the age of 30. He could play another 10-12 seasons, and only needs to average 32-36 goals to make it there. He's been quite durable over the years, and Europeans often have longevity in their careers (Jagr, Hasek, Lidstrom, Fedorov, Larionov). I think if he keeps putting up 50-60 for the next few seasons and is in arms reach of Gretzky's total he will do whatever it takes to beat the record.

As someone who does hold all of Gretzky's numbers in high regard I would love to see one of major records fall, otherwise it may never happen. I just wish Ovechkin hadn't of missed time during the lockout, I'd think with an extra 70 goals tacked on he could have hit 1,000 goals for all we know. And I know Gretzky missed time in the 1995 lockout, but he wasn't scoring at nearly the same rate then.
