And while the goaltending has been bad, what are the odds that Hiller and Ramo both became worse goalies in the same off-season, and that Ortio is already a complete bust? Seems a remarkable coincidence to me.
The Flames' team defence is awful. Bringing in another team's cast-off goalie will not turn things around. Bite the bullet, see what we have in Ortio while letting Gillies develop in the AHL, and let time run its course. Sign a veteran in the off-season if we have to. Panicking now will only make matters worse in the long run.

Have you seen the goals they're letting in? Floaters, fluffers, shots from outside with no traffic, completely losing net, horrible rebounds, etc.
You could make the same argument the other way - the Flames didn't just stop knowing how to play team defence.
