Wow, good to see people aren't rushing into crazy decisions.
Why are we suddenly in "win now" mode? After 1 shock good season, which wasn't even expected of us. Why wasn't it expected of us? Because we had a terrible roster, which we all thought was the case 14 months ago. To me, that hasn't changed much now. The goalie's(whether Ortio comes good or not) need sorting, Russell is becoming increasingly questionable, Wideman has 18 months left then he is gone. Hudler, does he get re-signed?
Jones, Raymond, Engelland, Bollig, Ramo, Hiller, Stajan. There is a lot of overpaid pap on this team that needs shedding before we can even hope to compete.
But don't forget they are a developing group. We have maybe 4 core forward pieces (Monahan, Bennett, Gaudreau, Frolik) and 3 defensive pieces(Gio, Brodie and Hamilton) that will be with us beyond the 2016-17 season. The rest, who knows? Surely the fact that we only have 7 core players shows we need to show some patience. We need to know what we have with the likes of Jooris, Colborne, Backlund, Bouma, Ferland, Russell, Ortio etc and where they might slot into the line up or whether they follow the deadwood out the door in the next 18 months.
Then we have some decent prospects in the likes of Poirer, Klimchuk, Andersson, Kylington, McDonald, Gillies. Trust the process I say. I am not worried about us long term.
But making silly short decisions over the next few weeks will damage us way more than if we let things play out and see where we are come the deadline. We aren't trading from a position of strength if we try to improve things now, we'll get ripped off if we try to trade for a goalie or try to get one of Russell/Wideman off the books. Don't make any long term decisions now, because I have a feeling we'll be regretting it in a few months time.
