Using that logic if he had a great game it would boost his development to Vezina candidate this year.

What would it do?
Take him out of his comfort zone that he is developing in the AHL and hurt his confidence. Gillies has shown that he still has a lot to work on at the AHL level and the Flames have shown that they have a lot more issues than goaltending.
There is a reason players are kept in the minors and developed there and not brought up for the hell of it.
It is a move with zero upside and lots of risk.
