There are certainly irrational fears of Islam.

But that does not mean that all criticisms of the ideology are irrational. One does not follow from the other.

"Islamophobia" is a term designed designed to throw ideological criticism under the same tent as racism/bigotry. This is an obviously illogical position.

Xenophobia is obviously a pointless term for the discussion because it requires the position to be irrational. This is not always the case, either.

As for the bold-ed, you would be interested in various poll results for north american muslims.
