Dubnyk was on waivers last season and now signed to a $26 million deal. What exactly is your point here bringing up past seasons when he wasn't a Flame? Do you think in the Wild in negotiations told Dubnyk's agent that since he wasn't that good in his last season with Edmonton, couldn't play for the Predators, and could have been had by anyone in waivers that his value was diminished and he should accept a lowball deal? IMO the only thing of low value right now is your argument.
I think the problem right now is that a lot of teams simply don't have $5 million of cap room to spare as teams assemble their teams in the offseason cutting things close to the cap in free agency and don't leave a lot of room to make major trades during the season. I expect that teams would want to send back a player in the range of $5 million in return and that player is not likely going to help the Flames more than keeping Wideman.
