Volkswagen installed software that cheats emissions tests on more cars than previously known, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

VW has already admitted that it cheated US emissions standards, by
installing so-called defeat devices on 2009-2015 model year cars equipped with its 2.0 liter TDI engines.

The software is also on VW's 3.0-liter, V6 diesel engines, the US agency said Monday.

According to the EPA, cars affected by the latest notice of violation include diesel versions of the:

2014 VW Touareg
2015 Porsche Cayenne
2016 Audi A6 Quattro
2016 Audi A7 Quattro
2016 Audi A8
2016 Audi A8L
2016 Audi Q5
This notice of violation covers 10,000 cars sold between 2014-2016.

The EPA indicated that the models featured in the announcement are only the ones that have completed and failed its testing. The cars included on the list emit as much as nine-times the legal limit of nitrogen oxide (NOx) when operated on the road.

The agency said on a call with the media that its testing is still ongoing. As a result, it is possible more models will be added to the list.
