I feel that as a lot of writers/directors/producers get older, they seem to get clouded with the idea that kids need goofy/cutesy/furry characters to relate to.

I don't know about you guys but as a kid, I always related and looked up to the more serious and cool characters and that's what serves as role models and inspirations for kids to aspire to and to play as. Kids played as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker...not Ewoks.

I don't know why so many creative people get bogged down with the absurd notion that you need to have a joke character for kids to like. That's the biggest flaw of George Lucas' logic in creating Jar Jar.
