I think Treliving only does that if all three of Ramo, Hiller and Ortio start to crap the bed again,
and he can't find another one in the trade market. Ideally you want Gillies getting as many starts and minutes as possible, which he will be getting in the AHL. However if he gets called up then he'll be riding the pine some nights so I'd rather him get a good full year in the pros before trying some starts in the NHL. And until the defensive coverage finally cleans up they'd rather not play him in that situation at all.
Year after next I think he will be the clear starter for the NHL. Until then let's let him ripen.
