Since his start in the pre-season on Sep 24th against COL (a shut-out), he has started the following games:

Oct 1, WPG
Oct 26, NYR
Oct 30, OTT

Assuming Ramo starts next game, the earliest possible next start for Ortio is Nov 5th (and only if Ramo loses Tues, which no one wants).

Even with that, Ortio will have started 4 games in 7 weeks. And again, that is probably unlikely at this point.

With that amount of work, Ortio simply has no chance of success.

The only sensible strategy for him now is to send him down as soon as Hiller is healthy. If they lose him, they lose him. But no one is going to claim him right now.
Problem is that the Heat have only played 6 games thus far...and Gillies would have had to start at least 3 of those particularly if he was playing better which right now appears to be the case.

So do you keep Ortio up and practicing everyday with NHL players or send him down to get just as many games in but practicing with AHL players?

Treliving created a bit of a conundrum when he re-signed Ramo, and it's his job to figure a way out of it...which ironically may involve trading for another G.
