Maybe a Carolina fan would think differently, but I suggested Carolina as a trade partner because I believe that the Flames match up pretty well with them. Tried not to be one sided, and suggested a huge trade to show the depth of the two teams needs. Carolina would arguably be better after a trade with Calgary. Calgary adds a prospect? Probably.

Russell and Hiller are UFA's so they only add value this year to a Carolina team that shouldn't care about this year.
Raymond is a negative for them because his cap hit is bad and for more than this year.
So basically that leaves them with Backlund as the only piece that would/should have interest for them and for that they have to give up SKinner who is much better now and has a much higher ceiling than Backlund. Plus if I am Carolina I would rather have Nash and Rask playing 3rd line center than putting Backlund in there.
Ward and Liles are UFAs this year so they actually end up adding money to the cap for next year and get worse. That doesn't seem it to save 2 million this year.
