With both Bouma and Ferland out for a month plus, that would also help in that regard.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up happening.
With Brodie coming back the Flames just don't have enough space on the active roster for all these d-men, and I think they do want to have a look at what Nakladal can do at the NHL level as well.
Neither contract is that palatable, but at lease Bickell does provide some size up front which is badly needed with Bouma and Ferland potentially out long term.
