But these two players are at different stages in their development. I think Johnny Hockey is a franchise player right now. Sean Monahan put up stats last year but there's a lot of growth in his game to be realized. From what I'm seeing of Monahan this year, he's taken some definite forward strides in his game, but he shouldn't get the same money that Johnny is getting - right now.
Bridging Monahan also buys the team time to pay all four of Monahan, Hudler, Bennett, and Gaudreau.
Thoughts? Is there a "business worry" about offending Monahan by paying Gaudreau long term and bridging him?

Disagree with your thoughts on Monahan. Gaudreau is likely as special as you suggest, but you are under rating Monahan, likely because he's not as Flashy as Gaudreau, but Monahan plays a much more important and difficult position and is actually younger than Gaudreau.
Re-signing a 32 year old Hudler should not be a priority for this young team, especially not if it means to play games with the contract of our first promising young franchise player potential centre we've seen in decades. Don't forget how badly this team struggled last time it's franchise player was an exceptional winger with no complimentary star at centre.
