Was just talking about someone about this the other day, but as it was explained to me:
- Dominant hand on top - Mainly defenceman as you want to use your strong hand if you are defending with 1 hand on the stick or poke away a puck
- Dominant hand on the bottom - stick handling is more optimum as your dominant hand is moving the stick
Never understood how power is generated with the dominant hand on top, since it's the bottom hand that acts as the fulcrum to flex the stick and release the energy to shoot a puck

Interesting. I am left handed but my right arm has more power. For example I eat with my left hand, type on my phone mostly with my left hand and write left handed. But I throw a baseball with my right, punch more powerfully with my right and shoot right in hockey.
From what I understand most people in the states shoot right? I think it has to be some kind of sports phenomenon haha
