If that's the case, start dealing vets for picks and prospects and aim for Matthews now. Get the kids up and rotate them for some NHL experience and start prepping for next season.
We need young bodies with some NHL experience or at least proven they are ready.

The Flames are still rebuilding. That means they should still be looking at deals through the lens of how it improves the team in the long-term, not this season.

The problem is the Jackets are tight up against the cap. If Russell or Wideman are going to Columbus, contract will be coming back. Another reason why it would be a tricky deal to make.
