From what it looked like to me (I wasn't there, just watched the vid)...the officer, had he waited about 1 second longer, would have had the dog munching on his gun arm or private bits. I'm frankly kind of surprised he had the time to draw and shoot, it happened that fast. I think it was just 'lucky' (for him...) he hit the dog in the first place.
