I think the only way he goes to another NHL team is if the Flames retain a significant amount of salary, and probably take a bad contract back in return.
I wonder if Europe is an option for him at this point? If the Flames were to lend him to a team in Finland (or somewhere over there), what would be the cap implications?

His cap would still count, minus the $900 000 the Flames can bury in the minors. The European team might help pay for his salary, but that would be about it.
