In the end his ego wouldn't allow him to step aside and let someone else lead the PC's in this election. This election was personal and he cost his party any chance of a win today.

I think Harper will stay on as an MP but I don't expect him to be leading the Conservatives for much longer. They need new, fresh leadership to go up against the Liberals and Trudeau.
