Resolving this situation is worth $2.25m IMO. Any compensation is a bonus.
Owners may not agree and I suppose that's all that matters but there is a chance he (or Ramo @ $3.8m) could just as easily end up on waivers and the Flames could risk paying him to not even play on the team. If that's the case then I think the first scenario is preferable. There's a decent chance Treliving will end up having to make that choice. Those might only be the only two options available if he waits for too long, and they keep playing horribly.
