The vast majority of Canadian are centrists, neither right nor left, but relatively right on economic policy and liberal on social policy. Generally, I would say most Canadians want a pragmatic, responsible, moderate government more than anything else.
The posters on here are more supporting of liberal policies than the average Albertan, but I think that's more because they are also more informed. In general, when I test most of my staunch conservative supporting friends to see where their ideals are, their ideals match more closely with the stated ideals of the NDP than with the conservative party. They just think the conservative party is more likely to enable people to reach those ideals, or think the government's main role should be get out of the way in terms of achieving those ideals. They also seem determined to ignore how authoritarian the conservative government has become, and just how little they actually represent typical conservative values (which are actually largely about conserving traditional liberal values).
