I understand name recognition is big when people make uninformed votes, but we're talking a few of thousands of signs in a riding being noodled with.

Companies spend billions on advertising so they seem to think it works.
I think if you can make a candidate look really popular, it can sway some people. There are some people that just want to be on the winning side.
There could also be a level of intimidation for some people if they see signs that are kicked in.
