The Flames are only playing 4 d-men.
Out of 189 NHL d-men that have played 2 games Kulak ranks 189 in TOI/gm and Engelland ranks 186.
The Flames have their top-4 all playing more minutes than Shea Weber and Dustin Byfuglien.
Wideman and Russell were amazing and handled the huge minutes the last 20 games of last year, carrying the team into the playoffs.
Maybe I am over-reacting but Byfuglien has a lot of energy and jump in the last 2 minutes and Wideman needed a lot more energy to at least threaten to make contact with Byfuglien to not allow him to skate around him.
Once Byfuglen was 2 strides past Wideman Ramo's job becomes a lot more difficult, He has a lot more options to cover. The open passing lane to the slot, that Russell was sliding across to try to cover, Byfuglien driving the net or the shot against the post that went in.
When is Brodie back?
