People want Uber because of availability, plain and simple.
In the inner city, I haven't had too many instances where I've been stranded waiting a cab. But if I'm anywhere outside of the inner city, the chances are slim to nil in getting one. I've also heard horror stories of friends who've managed to hail a cab, then get denied service because the ride was too far away. What can one do in that situation? Nothing...
I never rely on cabs to get me home, even when I'm in the cab hotspots. Rather than relying on a cab, I either plan to walk, stay over, rely on a DD, or just not keep the alcohol consumption to a minimum.
