You also don't need to do all the updates. There's a standalone "Windows 10 upgrade" app you can download immediately after installing Win7.
Once you're upgraded and activated in Windows 10, you can do a clean install. MS takes a hardware signature or something that lets you re-install Win10.

I meant installing windows 7 and using the media key on the fresh install rather than installing a ton of updates on a fresh install of 7 before upgrading to 10. I wasn't trying to say to try clean installing windows 10 with the windows 7 key. Sorry, bad wording.
