You can't have a goalie that plays that badly at the start and you won't know if he'll stop that until you get there. Having Ramo eliminated that problem. Now the Flames have the problem of too many guys, but it is a far better problem to have.
If that is the case its still perplexing if the intent wasn't to trade Hiller in the summer (or at some point):
1. If there is that little trust in Ortio that you have to sign a guy ahead of him to make him #3 (the backup to the backup) than why even have him around. You will trust him in a couple weeks but not right now?

2. It was basically common knowledge (at least i thought so) that they were trying to trade at least one of Hiller or Ramo before the start of the season which would make Ortio the fulltime backup to start anyways.

I guess i could be way off though.
