Rask + Ortio would be the tandem. Unless you're calling Gillies an NHL goalie, I don't know where you're getting the extra goalie from.

Rask is in the top 10. Have a D like Calgary's in front of him and he'd be one of the best.

Yes, Chicago has won with Niemi and Crawford, but in both cases the team in front of him was so good that it took a huge amount of pressure off. Crawford is a top 15 goalie though, where Niemi is about as good as Ramo. However, the Flames do not have anywhere near the talent the Hawks did when they won with Niemi, and aren't as good when they won the other two times. They need a great goalie. Whether you develop that internally by having either Ortio or Gillies figure things out and they become amazing, or you trade for one, it will need to be done.

The reason why the Canadiens haven't had much success is because the team in front of Price is terrible. The Rangers are not that good either, although they are better than the Habs. If either team was closer in terms of talent as the Ducks, Kings, or Hawks from the past handful of years they would have a cup or more between them. Take either of those goalies away and replace them with Hiller and they cease being playoff teams and that's not a slight to Hiller.

If there is a way to improve your team, regardless of position, you do it as long as the acquisition cost makes sense.
I am generally with you here as having a true #1 would greatly improve the team. Rask and Ortio makes sense and is in fact, a lower cap hit than current situation.

However, I have to quibble with the bolded parts.

I doubt Boston has an interest in either goalie.

If Hiller or Ramo could be traded for picks so easily, it would have happened already.

The price for Rask is likely too steep. And I really don't want to see the Flames trade another 1st rounder.
