Politics does tend to boil down to that to a large extent. However, like you said, it's not always that simple. There are some who actually believe the myth that what is best for the rich is best for us all (ie: "trickle-down economics").

The dilemma I always seem to run into when deciding on who to vote for is the fact that right-wing parties tend to prioritize what is best for the upper and upper-middle classes, whereas center and left wing parties tend to spend too wastefully and run deficits.

It always feels like we have to choose between lesser of evils.
