GAME 15: Battle of Alberta (CFL Style) - Part 3
Game time: 5:00pm Saturday, October 10th at McMahon Stadium
TV: TSN, ESPN3
Calgary Stampeders(11-3) will be playing the Edmonton Eskimos(10-4) for the third time and the most important game this regular season. Calgary won the Labour Day game and Edmonton winning the rematch. Stampeders winning this game will ensure them the 1st place in Western Division and a bye in the first round Western Division playoff. The worst case scenario for the Stamps this late in the season and losing this game and Eskimos winning the rest of their games.
Edmonton Eskimos won the last 4 games since QB Mike Reilly came back from the injury.
OFFENSE:
RB Jon Cornish posted a back-to-back 90 rushing yards or better in the last 2 games. He is heating up at the right time and hope he torched the Eskimos with more rushing yardages in this game. Cornish been very good against the Eskimos in the last few games he played.
QB Bo Levi Mitchell cooled off of late. He only threw for more than 300 yards just once in the last 5 games. In those last 5 games, he threw for 6 TDs and 4 INTs. R Eric Rogers and R Marquay McDaniel has been Mitchell's favorite targets of late.
DEFENSE:
Last time Stamps played the Eskimos in Week 12, Defense gave up a season-high total 431 yards and 352 yards of those are passing yards. Ever since their lost to Eskimos, Stamps D improved allowing an average 241 passing yards, 2 passing TDs while picking off 4 interceptions.
LB Deron Mayo replacing Juwan Simpson as a middle linebacker had 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery last game.
DE Freddie Bishop III had at least a QB sack in the last 6 games tying him Charleston Hughes for the team lead in QB sacks with 9.
SPECIAL TEAM:
Returner Tim Brown will be back in the lineup tonight after going down with the injury against Randy Richards who was playing for the Riders at the time. Richards is now a Calgary Stampeders and might start playing soon as a special teamer. Stamps coverage team has been awful in the last few games giving up return touchdown against Lions Chris Rainey(2x), Ticats Speedy Banks and Bombers Stoudamaire. Blocking team hasn't been that good either with their constant illegal block/holding penalty and letting the opponents blocked Rob Maver's punt. This group need to improve soon.
INs and OUTs:
In: #2 RB/Ret Tim Brown, #32 DB Tevaughn Campbell, #48 LB Cameron Ontko, #94 DL/ST Frank Beltre
Out: #17 Ret Skye Dawson, #34 RB Tory Harrison, #41 DB/ST Adam Thibault, #98 DE Brandon Boudreaux.
