Gillies would have to shoot the lights out this year in order for the Flames to accelerate his development that much.
And if that were in fact the case (very unlikely) then yeah, they might be less concerned about Ortio.
Otherwise, no way.
Goalies are unpredictable. You need to develop as many as possible. When you get one this close to becoming a solid NHLer, you don't just throw in the towel the first time he let's in a soft goal.
