How about when Gibbons left Sanchez in for an additional inning, or when he left Osuna in for an additional inning despite those pitchers not having been used in those roles during the season, but he left them in there longer to avoid having to go to the guys like Loup, Hawkins any sooner than necessar. Now had that backfired, you would point and Gibbons and say it was a bad call. But it goes well, and it just gets totally over-looked and you harp on the one bullpen scenario that didn't work out.

This is baseball. Sometimes the other team just gets you. There has to be a winner, but it doesn't make it the wrong decision just because it didn't work. It'll never be perfect, it's about minimizing the risk and damage as much as you possibly can.
Agree 100% that managing in baseball is about managing the risk, and that's why Gibbons is a poor manager in my mind. He doesn't minimize the risk. Sure there are examples when it works out, but when you aren't going with the status and matchups, your are going to lose more often than not at the end of the day. It's akin to a casino. Sure you may win from time to time, but eventually the house is going to win.

Gibbons is too much of a cowboy, going on his gut. I think the Jays abysmal record in 1 run games speaks to that.

It's a good discussion regardless though. I respect your opinion even though we differ. My whole "give me some examples" was more for the drive by posters in this debate.
