It's about the area in Panjwaii District, Kandahar where Canadian Forces spent five years (2006-2011) trying to beat back Taliban, protect the local population, build infrastructure and save lives. We lost many Canadian lives.
The road refers to mud tracks that cut through the district and was constantly IED'd by Taliban. It was eventually built up and paved.
Panjwaii was the Taliban heartland. I don't know how many Canadians know how tough that combat mission was. It was sometimes insane. Paul Gross did spend some time there, in 2011. For me, it's hard to think about even now (I was civilian, not soldier) and I have no interst watching a dramatization, but it may be of interest and even educational to others. Or so I hope.
