Thrashers and Hawks make a deal
THRASHERS SWING DEAL WITH HAWKS TO ACQUIRE #1 GOALIE
(AP) - Atlanta
The Atlanta Thrashers swung a deal early Monday that saw the Thrashers obtain #1 goalie Marc Denis. Denis is a starting goaltender who the Thrashers have lacked since GM Sutaria took over. Denis and Ilya Bryzgalov should provide a strong duo between the pipes for the Thrashers.
In exchange, the Hawks recieve RW Joffrey Lupul, G Jamie McLennan and youngster Fredrik Sjostrom. The biggest name the Hawks recieve is Lupul, who is a good young player the Thrashers had to part with but GM Sutaria was willing to let him go in exchange for a #1 goalie.
"Joffrey is a good young player but to get a goalie like Denis, you have to give up some talent. And we have Langenbrunner, Walker, and Korolyuk on the right side so we felt we have 3 players who already can provide offense for us in that position. We wish Joffrey as well as Jamie and Fredrik the best in Chicago. We are very pleased today to acquire Marc as our #1 goaltender."
