I have had people ask me to do it this way, because they were too cheap to fork out a bit more to get a new subfloor installed. Do it right the first time is what I always tell people, but most of them don't listen.

Actually, k3 isn't a no no if you prep the K3 properly AND use hardwood floor nails that are long enough to catch the plywood or OSB that is under the K3.
I would re-nail the K3 down to the sheathing with ring nails and fill any joint and/or imperfections with thin-set concrete.
