GAME 13: STAMPEDERS vs Winnipeg
Game Time: Friday, September 25 @ 6:30pm Investors Group Field(Winnipeg)
TV: TSN, ESPN3
OFFENSE:
R Eric Rogers caught 8 passes for 115 yards and became the first receiver in the CFL to catch 1,000 yards this season. QB Bo Levi Mitchell did not have a bad game last week throwing 34 times and connected 21 times for 268 yards and 2 TD. RB Jon Cornish played his first game last week after injuring his thumb early in the season. Cornish didn't get to rush the ball much but he still scored a TD run in the 4th quarter. Cornish was limited to 41 yards in the game. Looks like R Joe West is going to be back in tomorrow's game and R Greg Wilson might be the one sitting out.
DEFENSE:
Defense were pretty good early in last week's game against BC Lions but for some reason they changed their game after the starting QB John Beck got injured. They had a bit of a problem stopping the rookie 3rd stringer QB Jennings last week. In the 4th quarter after BC Lions tied the game, they seemed to wake up and stopped the Lion's offense until the end of the game. LB Keon Raymond ended up with 2 tackles and 2 INT in the game. DB Jamar Wall had a pretty good game with 10 tackles while DB Joe Burnett ended up with 5 tackles, 1 interception and 3 pass knockdown. Tomorrow they will face a struggling Winnipeg team led by former Eskimo QB Matt Nichols playing his 3rd games as a Bombers. Stamps defense have been very successful playing against Nichols in the last few seasons.
SPECIAL TEAM:
Our special team has been the weakest link in this team. Way too many penalties and not getting good return much. The coverage group seems to be playing well in the last few games but last week, they got burned by two return TDs by Chris Rainey (punt return TD and kickoff return TD). Nathan Slaughter replaced the injured Tim Brown had an adventure returning punts and kickoffs. His best kickoff return in the 4th quarter turned out to be a momentum changer and also turned out to be his last special team return as he got released by the Stampeders after they picked up another returner Skye Dawson in a trade with the Eskimos.
************************************************** ***********
Notables:
* Coach John Hufnagel is closing in to a century mark in regular season wins. Huff has 97 career regular season coaching wins and just 2 behind Cal Murphy for 10th all time in CFL History.
* Nathan Slaughter is getting another chance with the Stamps. He is back with the team but they placed him on a 6-game injured list.
* DE Charleston Hughes and Winnipeg DLine Jamaal Westerman are tied for the lead in CFL Quarterback sacks.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!
