Yes fluke goals go in, but they also do in real hockey. The whole thing is now about balance. Sticks break, cpu players get penalties but most of the things are not unrealistic in comparison to real hockey as a simulation. The real work needs to be done in the corners;
when a bunch of players go into a corner things turn into a pinball match and everyone just bounces off eachother and charging in for a hit usually won't result in a good hit. You'll just kind of slide along side the opponent. In real hockey they can push the other players off their trajectory more easily with their arms and shoulders and pinning/clearing the net is easier. In this game things get real floaty in crowded areas.
