I thought the debate set out a fairly clear difference between the Liberals and NDP. One will spend money in an attempt to boost the economy through investment, the other will try to balance the budgets by reversing tax breaks introduced by the current government and taxing corporations, using the money to invest in certain social programs, namely child care. I know it is popular to choose a winner of a debate. For me, I thought both men made their case very well and both stood up to Harper's classic stance that usually cuts down anyone who has an alternative economic perspective to his own. I think tonight's debate, for the first time, really crystallized a distinction between the Liberals and the NDP.

As far as performances, I thought Trudeau came off as passionate and direct, and I thought Mulcaire came off as measured and deliberate. I think supporters of both parties will be pleased with the performances. The question becomes which plan do Canadians who don't want the Conservatives get behind?
