Default CP Book Club - October 15 Book: READY PLAYER ONE

Any interest in a CP Book Club?

Each month we can nominate and select a book to read. Then, we can can come here to discuss the book. Fiction, non-fiction, whatever book gathers the most interest.

Book for October:

I recently read:

Flash Boys - Michael Lewis
The Inconvenient Indian - Thomas King
How Music Works - David Byrne
Modern Romance - Aziz Ansari

I am about to read The Orenda by Joseph Boyden, and nominate it for October.

The Orenda
is a novel set in 17th Century Canada. A historical novel describing the clash of cultures between a Jesuit priest, a Iroquois child and Huron warrior. The novel has won numerous awards and was generally well received. The subject matter is interesting to me having read part of the Jesuit Diaries in legal history class. I was very interested in the movie Black Robe when I saw it. I think Boyden has been critical about historical inaccuracies in Black Robe, but other commentators level the same criticism at The Orenda, saying that this novel depicts the Huron as violent instead of peaceful, and does not mention the matrilineal nature of Huron life.

Just a suggestion - would love to see what other books people recommend and what to discuss.
