No, I haven't read Coming Apart, but I was forced to read The Bell Curve for a graduate poly-sci class, then for some reason started down the same rabbit hole with Murray by starting Losing Ground, but stopped after a few chapters.

So you haven't read the book, and really have no familiar with the guy's work generally, beyond reading his worst book.
Coming Apart is a fairly good attempt to rectify some of the mistakes found in
Bell Curve. Mainly, as he eliminates race as a variable! Classic problem of ad hominem. Instead of engaging directly with his arguments, you sideswipe him the accusation of racism! I have no idea whether or not Murray is a racist, and it doesn't impinge on the arguments made in his most recent book. I am beginning to get an idea as to what type of graduate student you were.
You are right. I haven't made a concerted effort to really say anything beyond a handful of fairly trite observations. That said, there are a lot of factual and theoretical problems with your post. Give me a few days. I have the weekend free. I am going to return to
Coming Apart, do a little extra reading on the Trump/Sanders issue, and give a full-scale rebuttal on Tuesday or Wednesday. Sound good?
