I think the tax factor is probably a big one, but another thing to think about is that Ontario, Quebec, and the maritimes have about 70% of the refining capacity in the country.
I'm not sure if refineries in the prairies and BC produce enough gasoline for our regional use, but if we don't then it's possible that transportation cost for the gasoline back from Ontario play a role in the price of gasoline on here.
